Indoor Things to do You May not Have Heard of for Kids and Teens in Greenville, NC: Fun-Filled Adventures Await!

Writer: Emily MclawhornEmily Mclawhorn

If you’re a parent or nanny in Greenville, North Carolina, or nearby areas, finding fun and engaging indoor activities for kids can sometimes be a challenge—especially when the weather doesn’t cooperate. As it gets colder outside, sometimes sitting by the fireplace can get, well, a little blah. When it's time to get everyone out of the house- it can be exhausting researching places to go with a car full of kids!

Thankfully, Greenville is home to some fantastic indoor spaces where kids can learn, explore, and burn off energy in a safe, welcoming environment. Whether your little ones are budding scientists, curious artists, or active adventurers, there’s something for every interest. Here’s a detailed look at some of the best indoor spots for kids in Greenville and the surrounding areas.

1. North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Contentnea Creek

Location: Grifton, NC

Highlights :Just a short drive from Greenville, this museum is perfect for hands-on learning.

The exhibits focus on astronomy, geology, and local wildlife, making it an exciting destination for curious minds. Kids can participate in educational programs that let them explore the stars, dig into fossils, and learn about the animals that call North Carolina home.

The museum offers many events, field trips, exhibits, and night sky observations!

Why it’s great: The interactive exhibits encourage children to ask questions and dive deeper into science, all while having a blast.

2. Greenville Museum of Art - Children’s Gallery

Location: Greenville, NC

Highlights :Introduce your kids to the world of art in this interactive gallery with a craft room designed just for them.

One of our favorite spots to visit, the Children’s room at the Greenville Museum of Art offers free hands-on activities where little artists can create, explore, and be inspired by the exhibits around them.

As a homeschool mom, I can appreciate the endless collection of pipe cleaners, glue sticks, and googly eyes GMOA offers in their art room. We enter this space (usually quiet and calm when we visit on weekdays!) and the kids get their creativity going. I love that they can create unstructured, undirected crafts and art, and we typically leave it on display for others to enjoy. There's also a chalkboard where you can leave funny or inspiring messages, or a cool drawing for others to see! It's a great resource for families and homeschoolers in the area.

Why it’s great: It’s an excellent opportunity to foster creativity and appreciation for the arts in a space tailored to young visitors.
